Having an issue with my shifter and going into neutral. It only happens when I am at a stop and try to shift into neutral. From first or second it is difficult to move and when it does move it goes past neutral into the next gear. Sometimes it can be be in neutral, but it requires a lot of work to vary the pressure I put on the shifter and a little clutch play.
If I am moving, it slips into place with no problem, but becomes increasingly difficult the slower I go until the stop where it becomes an issue.

Any ideas?

Not sure about the Suz, I'm a Honda guy, but if it's got a cable clutch, check your adjustment.

when was the last time you changed your oil?, another thing that a lot of people overlook is making sure the pivot bushings/bearing/ball joints whatever u they're called that connect the shift lever to the actual gear selector are lubed, if you peel back the boots that cover them you can lube em, makes a big differnce for false neutrals too. What year is the SV? I've got an 04(it's mama's but I ride it tons more than she does) and the shift stars get a little worn. It makes it a little notchier to find the next gear. Mostly is a problem when I get off the GSXR and right on to the SV. The SV takes a little more love to get to Neutral and sometimes I go past it. I'd clean and lube everything and see where you end up.

It's just to bad Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki don't make a bike as mean and fast looking as the SV...

Although I am so happy using my hydraulic Hayabusa clutch on my SV1000s.

The year is 2006 and I changed my oil a few hundred miles ago..

I'll try looking at the joint there when I get home.

My sis in laws SV does it and so does mine, if you downshift into nuetral while still moving it seems to catch easier. I adjusted my clutch and it is much better although once in a while it still gets cranky.

Figured I would post the final outcome. Tightened the clutch lever. Its funny the degree of difference between how it was and how it is now, can't believe I never really noticed that it had so much play...

So its all good now, front brake too.

i had same problem on my 04 bandit....hard to get into nuetral and sometime sticks in between gear as i was rollin...changing over to a synthetic oil made a big diff- in the shifting ...alot smoother and i think it even runs cooler (air/oil cooled)
